I really love the vintage, traditional feel of this quilt. I can just imagine Laura from Little House on The Prairie having it on her bed! I knew I wanted to create something like this the moment I clapped eyes on the Shelburne Falls collection, so after much fabric petting and stroking I auditioned several other fabrics from my stash to pair up with, in order to make a straightforward four-patch design, alternating with square's. It's a really simple quilt to showcase all the pretty fabrics at their best.
I quilted it with a cross-hatch design, which I haven't tried before. It was a lot simpler than I originally thought! I was worried I might get into quite a pickle with it pulling but I managed it pretty well :) I used Darleene Zimmerman's Mother's Melodies spot in chocolate to bind the quilt, it's a favourite binding for me which I've used here (in blue), and here. The backing fabric is a sweet little print I've had in my stash for quite a while - a perfect fit for this, don't ya' think? :)
I've been thinking lately, I'd love to hang a bunch of my quilts on one of those cute display ladder's - like this! in my living room. Another project for the boy ;) hopefully I'll convince him to make one this weekend!
How do you store/display your quilts?
Happy Monday, Jessie, xo
Beautiful. Sue x

ReplyDeleteIt's a really lovely quilt with a vintage feel and you've captured it brilliantly in your photo's - always something I struggle with! I'd love a ladder display too, I keep looking out for an old wooden ladder that I could refurbish at our local rubbish tip but no luck yet!

ReplyDeleteI love your new quilt! You have done a wonderful job of mixing in some other prints with Shelburne Falls, especially tat pretty brown floral. I am lucky enough to own a ladder for displaying 'some' of my quilts!
ReplyDeleteI love this! I'm still working on a quilt collection to display ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful. I love everything about it. We either use the quilts or they go on the wall. I have a few vintage ones which are not in condition to do either. I love the ladder idea. I can't do it though. I have two little monkeys who would think it was an indoor jungle gym.
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous quilt Jessie!! Love the vintage feel and all the pretty prints!! A ladder is such a cute way to display quilts! Happy week to you! xo Heather

ReplyDeleteI found this while pootling around this morning, I have been making 4 patch blocks for a scrappy quilt, but when I sewed them into larger blocks hated them. I have decided to steal/borrow/adapt your idea to use my scrappy blocks. I talked about it in my post today and owned up to using your idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous print.I can not but love them.
